M-Tag

What is M-Tag?

An M-Tag (Motorway Tag) is an electronic RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) linked to a prepaid account, usually attached to the top of the front windscreen of a vehicle, that allows it to pass through a toll plaza without stopping. The M-tag deducts toll charges automatically by scanning in seconds. At toll booths, scanners are installed, which check the balance and enter the location. When you exit the motorway, scanners at the exit point automatically deduct the toll tax payment. So, waiting in long queues to submit their toll payment and receive a receipt is unnecessary. The same system is being used in developed countries.

Why M-Tag is necessary for motorways travelers?

The National Highway and Motorway Police introduced this modern technology for a toll tax collection solution. It boosts road safety, traffic flow, and pollution reduction. Additionally, the toll collection process becomes easier and quicker.

The Government of Pakistan has imposed a 50% surcharge on motorway tolls for vehicles without an M tag or with a low tag balance. This policy will take effect on June 5, 2025.
